Use tokens in dataset filters and parameters
Tokens are placeholders that AutomatedOn fills in when a dataset runs. You can use them in an OData dataset's Filters, and in a REST dataset's Resource Path and Query Parameters values.
Values supplied when it runs: {aoParam:name} or $$name$$
Use a name of your choice. Both spellings mean the same and can be mixed. For example:
UserId eq {aoParam:UserId} and Status eq '$$Status$$'
- On the dataset's Preview tab, a box appears for each name so you can try values.
- When a process uses the dataset, the values come from the process's parameters. Back-office users can also enter values when scheduling a run from the process's Jobs tab.
- If a value is missing when the dataset actually runs, the run fails with One or more aoParams were not provided.
- In OData filters, the value is inserted as typed, so add single quotes around text yourself. Any single quote inside a value is handled safely.
Relative dates: {aoDynamicMinutes:N}, {aoDynamicHours:N}, {aoDynamicDays:N}, {aoDynamicDaysAtMidnight:N}
These are filled in with the date and time N units from now, in UTC, written like 2026-10-19T09:30:00Z. Use a negative N for the past. DaysAtMidnight gives midnight UTC today, plus N days. The unit isn't case-sensitive.
| Example | Means |
|---|---|
ModifiedOn ge {aoDynamicDays:-30} | Changed in the last 30 days. |
StartDate ge {aoDynamicDaysAtMidnight:0} | Starting today or later. |
CreatedOn ge {aoDynamicHours:-1} | Created in the last hour. |
Dates from previous runs: {aoLastRun:Kind}
These use the process's own run history, so each run can pick up only what's changed since an earlier one.
| Kind | Which earlier run | Which time |
|---|---|---|
Started | The most recent run, whatever its outcome | When it started |
Completed | The most recent run, whatever its outcome | When it finished |
SuccessStarted | The most recent successful run | When it started |
SuccessCompleted | The most recent successful run | When it finished |
StartedSameParams | The most recent run with the same parameter values | When it started |
CompletedSameParams | The most recent run with the same parameter values | When it finished |
SuccessStartedSameParams | The most recent successful run with the same parameter values | When it started |
SuccessCompletedSameParams | The most recent successful run with the same parameter values | When it finished |
Example: ModifiedOn ge {aoLastRun:SuccessStarted} gets records changed since the last successful run started.
- If there's no matching earlier run yet, such as on the very first run, the time used is now minus the process's Schedule Period Minutes.
- On the Preview tab there's no run history, so these tokens use 7 days ago.
- The kind names are case-sensitive, so type them exactly as shown.
- The
SameParamskinds are useful when one process runs with different parameters, such as one run per region, and each needs its own starting point.
