Choose which Twilio account sends your messages
SMS and WhatsApp messages are sent through Twilio. The Twilio account details and sending numbers are held securely by Three 17, not in your back office. Your back office holds a Twilio Settings item that points to them using a key.
The Twilio Settings item
A Twilio Settings item sits under your tenant in the back office. It has one field:
- Twilio Config Key: the name of the Twilio set-up to use, for example
TenantA. Three 17 gives you this key when they set up Twilio for you.
Behind that key, Three 17 stores your Twilio account details, your SMS sending number, your WhatsApp sending number and, if needed, a default country code for phone numbers.
How a message template chooses
- If the template's Twilio Settings field has an item picked, that one is used.
- If it's empty, AutomatedOn uses the first Twilio Settings item it finds under your tenant.
Getting set up
To start sending SMS or WhatsApp messages, or to add another sending number or account, contact Three 17 support. Let them know whether you need SMS, WhatsApp or both, as each channel has its own sending number setting. Once they confirm, create a Twilio Settings item with the key they give you.
If a key is missing or incomplete, messages fail with an error such as Twilio configuration value 'AutomatedOn:Twilio:TenantA:WhatsAppFromNumber' is not configured. See Why didn't my SMS or WhatsApp message send?
